DURHAM, North Carolina, USA, September 19 2017 – President of Precision PlantSciences, Fayaz Khazi, Ph.D., joined the other founding partners of the Crops of the Future (COTF) collaborative in Washington D.C. in August of 2017. This gathering allowed members to establish the COTF Executive Committee and to further define the vision, initial focus and approach of this innovative public-private partnership dedicated to meeting food system challenges over the next 20-50 years. This new initiative of The Foundation for Food and Agriculture Research (FFAR), includes forward-thinking companies like Precision PlantSciences, Bayer, BioGemma, KWS, FAPESP, Rijk Zwaan and CIMMYT representing interests from critical facets of agriculture.
The COTF vision is to accelerate the ability to develop crops that benefit humanity now and in the future by increasing our understanding of the relationship between traits, genes, and the environment. With initial focus on improving wheat, maize, and leafy greens paired with concurrent efforts to develop generally applicable cross-crop technologies, the COTF collaborative expects to catalyze significant advances in crop innovation in the coming years.
